8. Meet The Creeper

Album: Hellbilly Deluxe (1998)

References: The Creeper isn’t a reference to the 1948 film of the same name or even to Rondo Hatton, who played the character in House Of Horrors (1946), but to The Phantom Creeps, a 1939 serial where Dr Alex Zorka (Bela Lugosi) develops an 8 foot tall robot for world domination purposes.

If you’re a Zombie fan, you’ll recognize the robot from the back cover of the Hellbilly Deluxe album as well as from the band’s live shows, where he served as a stage prop before being “retired.” Murray The Robot in The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto (2009) is also based on the character.

Dialogue Samples: “The Devil is in all of you!”

- Mark Of The Devil (1970)

“There are more maniacs lose than one thinks.”

- Daughters Of Darkness (1971)
