10 Woefully Miscast Actors In Comic Book Movies

6. Sylvester Stallone As Judge Dredd - Jude Dredd

Lex Luthor
Buena Vista

The character of Judge Dredd has been around since 1977 and is one of the most popular comic book anti-heroes of all time, and so it was surprising when Sylvester Stallone was chosen as the lead in the 1995 movie, with Danny Cannon at the helm despite only having one feature film to his name.

The film itself was panned by critics. It was badly written, it contained a number of needless subplots and lacked any faithfulness to the source material. With Stallone in the lead role he struggled to demonstrate the seriousness of the character, he overacted many of his lines (you betrayed the law!) and his constant slurring made it difficult to see him as the formidable law enforcer he was supposed to be.

Criminally, the decision was also made for Dredd to remove his helmet within 20 minutes of this movie, despite the fact him not removing his helmet has long been a key part of the character’s identity.

Thankfully, the character was given a much better representation with Karl Urban in the lead role in the frankly underrated 2012 remake Dredd.
