10 Worst CGI Moments In Star Wars

8. Greedo Shoots First - Star Wars: A New Hope (Special Edition)

Though it's a comparatively simple visual effect compared to every other entry on this list, the "Greed shoots first" debacle has nevertheless plagued fans for almost 25 years.

In the original version of A New Hope, Han Solo (Harrison Ford) pre-emptively shoots Greedo dead, Han being ruthless enough to gun the bounty hunter down before he can open fire himself.

But in the 1997 Special Edition, Lucas used computer trickery to edit the scene so that Greedo actually fires first, Han "dodges" the blast - achieved by clumsily shifting his head to the side digitally - and then fires back.

Even ignoring how needlessly it softens Han as a character and how terrible a shot it makes Greedo look, it's simply an hideously ugly CGI edit, and one nobody but Lucas asked for.

Subsequent revisions since have been varying degrees of terrible by altering the speed with which Han fires back, while the 2019 Disney+ version basically re-edits the exchange into scarcely comprehensible oblivion.
