10 Worst Comic Book Movie Climaxes
4. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace
If you thought Superman III was goofy, then Superman IV is probably not going to be to your taste either. The villain of the piece: Nuclear Man. He's an original villain made up for the movie, born out of a combination of Superman's DNA and nuclear radiation (but for some reason, he's solar powered), and he has an 80s mullet and silver press-on nails. Nothing could be more fabulously evil.
So the climax involves Nuclear Man falling in love with new character Lacy for no reason which, after a decidedly British approach to heroics where Superman just yells at Nuclear Man until he stops blowing stuff up, eventually leads to Nuclear Man kidnapping Lacy and taking her into space... with no spacesuit or anything to protect her. She’s just out in space and totally fine.
Apparently, Superman IV doesn't understand science a four-year-old would call foul on.
Then comes even more ridiculousness. Superman literally moves The Moon to create an eclipse and drain Nuclear Man's power (again, nothing scientifically wrong here) before engaging in a laughable low-gravity punch-up on said moon.
The villain is then defeated by dropping him into a nuclear reactor, converting him into energy. Nothing about this climax works, but it at least has the distinction of being the most entertainingly bad of all the sequences on this list.
