10 Worst Comic Book Movie Climaxes

3. Ghost Rider

Somehow after directing Daredevil, Mark Steven Johnson got another shot at a Marvel character and made the first Ghost Rider. There is a lot wrong with this movie, but its climax is laughably incompetent on several levels.

First off, taking out all of the long pieces where nemesis Blackheart reforms himself through all the souls he has absorbed, the entire final battle is over in just a couple of minutes. Ghost Rider doesn't even spend half the fight transformed, probably just so Nicolas Cage can get a little more face time. The battle itself only amounts to a couple of chain whips and some shotgun blasts, along with Ghost Rider hilarious throwing fire like they were snowballs.

But what makes this climax truly idiotic is how Ghost Rider defeats Blackheart. This requires a little explanation. So Ghost Rider's signature move is the Penance Stare, where he literally burns your soul out. He tried this move out on Blackheart earlier in the movie and it didn't work, because Blackheart has no soul. But what is the villain’s plan? Why, to absorb a thousand souls, of course.

So what does Ghost Rider do once he accomplishes this? Of course, he pins down Blackheart and does the Penance Stare, burning the thousand souls inside him, killing him in the process. The villain essentially had invincibility over Ghost Rider's finishing move, and he gave up that advantage so he can take a couple extra shotgun blasts? Brilliant.
