10 Worst Effects In Sci-Fi Movies
2. Hulk
Perhaps we have been spoiled with our special effects in the past decade. With the likes of the MCU just getting off the ground, the visual effects for superhero flicks had never looked better, and yet still continued to improve year-on-year. Unfortunately, the look for the MCU had to start from somewhere. Enter Ang Lee's Hulk.
Now, while special effects have come a long, long way since the days of Lou Ferrigno busting out of a white shirt and purple trousers while covered head to toe in green body paint, this particular version of The Hulk looked like someone had mixed that painted-man effect with a chubby Lego Duplo.
It's heartbreaking to see such a unique take on an iconic character be butchered by the amount of screen time that's given to the walking bowl of guacamole that is our titular protagonist. For the entire movie we watch the heavily saturated, nuclear green body of The Hulk bound around a series of washed out, sandy backdrops that almost make him glow even brighter against the brown and white sands.
And the one solid moment of VFX - when Bruce faces off against his father, David - is completely spoiled by the fact that it is way too dark to see what's even happening.
