10 Worst Films Adapted From Black List Screenplays

1. Dirty Grandpa

All About Steve Sandra Bullock
Lionsgate

Without a doubt one of the worst movies of last year, Dirty Grandpa is the film that saw veteran actor Robert De Niro’s career plumb new depths – the likes of which even Righteous Kill and Hide and Seek didn’t subject moviegoers to.

Zac Efron co-stars as the straight-laced, soon to be married grandson of De Niro’s titular lascivious grandpops who convinces his progeny to take a trip to Florida under the guise of recovering from his bereavement after the death of his wife.

Except the real reason is that he’s now a free man and wants to ogle nubile, young college girls on spring break. This premise treats us to scenes including but by no means limited to Efron catching a cackling De Niro masturbating to amateur porn and De Niro trying out a bit of pensioner themed dirty talk with Aubrey Plaza’s older man obsessed college girl.

Reportedly, both Jeff Bridges and Michael Douglas were offered the role prior to De Niro but presumably turned it down after reading the script. Which is pretty much what everyone involved – from Black List voters to director Dan Mazer – should’ve done from the start.
