10 Worst Films Adapted From Black List Screenplays
8. Red Riding Hood
It’s easy to see what the folks behind Red Riding Hood were
going for. Coasting on the coattails of the Twilight franchise’s success, a
gothic reimagining of the classic fairy tale but with the added bonus of a
werewolf and a teenage love triangle surely saw a few executive’s eyes light up
with dollar signs at the thought of the lucrative tween market just waiting to
be exploited yet again.
It’s not like they can even really deny trying to cash in on the Twilight tween market, either. Not only was original Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke hired to helm the film, Twilight actor Billy Burke was also hired to star.
But as godawful as the Twilight films were Red Riding Hood couldn’t even aspire to its not so lofty heights and thanks to some ludicrously stupid dialogue and taking itself far too seriously overall, it flopped hard. If its disappointing box office performance is anything to go by, even the usually gullible tweens weren’t daft enough to give it the time of day.
