10 Worst Horror Movies Of 2025 (So Far)

9. Until Dawn

Until Dawn for the PlayStation 4 made a massive impression on the gaming community, thanks to its butterfly effect concept, which causes the smallest action to have drastic consequences. The survival horror title also had a precognition mechanic, so players had an idea what would happen if they carried out certain tasks.

Even though Until Dawn has many innovative concepts, it'd be difficult to transition them to film. But when it was announced the movie adaptation was being helmed by Lights Out director, David F. Sandberg, and IT screenwriter, Gary Dauberman, the project seemed to be in safe hands.

Unfortunately, it's clear from the beginning the script is throwing in every horror cliche imaginable. Before any interesting element gets a chance to be fleshed out, the story moves onto the next overused trope, so none of the supposedly scary moments have any weight.

Characters regularly engage in repetitive conversations that neither build tension nor advance the plot. When the horror arrives, it’s undermined by excessive jump-scares, questionable editing, and sound design that mistakes loud noises for scary. Also, the drastic changes to the lore is sure to infuriate gamers (especially revolving around the Wendigos).

Until Dawn could've been a chilling descent into fear, but instead turned out to be a tedious stumble in the dark.
