This trailer doesn’t have a modicum of subtlety or self-respect. From start to finish it comes over as cheap and amateur.
Given the film’s complete lack of substance, this brief look at Piranha 3DD relies a lot on sex appeal in order to sell itself. Practically every shot contains at least one bikini-clad woman.
What’s more, the actual piranhas are not frightening at all. The CGI was outdated in 2012, and it looks painfully substandard when re-watching this trailer in 2020.
Tying all these shots together is a generic voiceover that heightens the trailer’s sense of unoriginality so that it feels like a fan-made parody of the first movie.
Few trailers are as wearisome as this one. It’s completely devoid of intelligence or intrigue and it reeks of desperation.
