3. Songbird
It's not terribly surprising that Michael Bay of all people would race to produce a film about the COVID-19 pandemic while the pandemic is still going on.
Songbird is a claustrophobic ensemble thriller taking place in a speculative 2024 where the virus has mutated to become the decidedly deadlier COVID-23, causing the U.S. to become a grimy dystopia ruled by an authoritarian government who will shoot rule-breakers on sight.
Though impressively produced considering the obvious restrictions and boasting a quality cast - including Craig Robinson, Bradley Whitford, Peter Stormare, Alexandra Daddario, Paul Walter Hauser, and Demi Moore - Songbird is the most morally repugnant film of 2020.
As much as there is an obvious audience appetite for films about the current Moment, given that many Americans are refusing to believe that the virus is real, let alone masking-up and staying inside, releasing a film which plays to right-wing conspiracy theories is at best reckless and at worst deeply irresponsible.
