10 Worst PG-13 Horror Films Since 2020

7. Brahms: The Boy II

Fantasy Island Movie
STX Entertainment

2016’s The Boy had one of the most shocking and maligned plot twists of the entire decade, when it was revealed that the porcelain doll at the heart of the story wasn’t possessed by a dead child, but that the child was now an adult who was living in the walls instead.

Despite the response to this moment, The Boy got a sequel in 2020, this time taking its name from the dead-not-so-dead kid. In this sequel, a mute boy discovers the Brahms doll buried near his new home and forms a bond with it. If you need more context, you’re going to need to watch the first film, because it’s way too confusing to write down.

Brahms: The Boy II has no idea what it wants to be, as it simultaneously tries to incorporate elements of home invasion, possession, family abuse, and psychological horror, all to no effect. It also makes zero effort to connect to the previous film, besides the doll, of course.

It looks boring, it sounds boring, and, for the most part, it is boring. At least with the original film, there’s the suspense before the crazy ending - where was that here?
