10 Worst Plot Twists In Recent Movies
1. Ray Actually Dies In The First Act - Sweet Girl
Netflix's recent action-thriller Sweet Girl boasted a twist so utterly bonkers and ridiculous that it basically caused the movie to go viral.
On the surface, this is a straight-up revenge thriller as Ray Cooper (Jason Momoa) and his daughter Rachel (Isabela Merced) hunt down those responsible for the death of their wife and mother, who passed from cancer after life-saving drugs were suddenly pulled from the market.
Ray and Rachel get into their fair share of scrapes throughout the film, including a standoff at a subway in the first act which ends with Ray being stabbed.
We then skip forward two years in time where father and daughter are still plotting to take down the Big Pharma CEO responsible for their wife/mother's death, though in the third act the film drops a mind-melting clunker of a twist ending.
It actually turns out that Ray died from his subway stabbing, and everything we've seen him doing over the last hour-plus has actually been carried out by a dissociative Rachel. Right.
Given that we've seen Ray kicking some major ass against some very large adversaries throughout the movie, it's simply laughable to consider that his pint-sized daughter has in fact been doing these feats.
This is a classic case of a movie trying so hard to be shocking and unpredictable but ultimately just disregarding the basic internal logic of its story and characters. Fight Club did it so much better.
