Now, we're not going to sit here and try to convince you that Police Academys 1-4 were particularly solid works of art, but Police Academy 5 takes the mediocre comedy shtick into an entirely new level. As Leonard Maltin rightly said in his initial review of the film, "What can you say about a sequel that Steve Guttenberg won't even appear in?" That's a fair point. When you can no longer interest Steve Guttenberg, a man who will work in literally anything he will be paid for, you've got a problem. You need to sit down and really examine what in your life has lead you to this point, and how you can dig yourself out of this hole. We probably could have gotten Guttenberg to star in our senior thesis at film school if we had a few hundred dollars, for God's sake. But hey, Police Academy 5 could have been worse. It could have been Police Academy 6.
