10 Worst Superhero Movies According To Rotten Tomatoes
3. Son Of The Mask
The Mask is indeed considered a superhero, and while it may be a little-known fact, the character's story started in the pages of a Dark Horse comic book series, and not the classic 1994 movie starring Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz.
Released eleven years after that, Son Of The Mask was supposed to be a sequel and took place in the same world... minus those A-List cast members. That was something critics clearly zeroed in on back in 2005, as the Critics Consensus describes it as being, "Overly frantic, painfully unfunny, and sorely missing the presence of Jim Carrey."
Despite being panned by critics, Son Of The Mask managed to earn an admittedly dismal $59.9 million against its $84 million - 100 million budget. The fact that many people went to see it is, in itself, a shocker, but there was always going to be a sense of nostalgia for some older moviegoers.
There's no reason to recommend this 6% stinker, because even Alan Cumming's weird take on Loki can't make up for what's missing. Jamie Kennedy is no Jim Carrey, that's for damn sure.
