10 Worst Villain Lairs In Movie History

2. The Penguin's Sewer Habitat (Batman Returns)

I considered letting this one go because, for all of its excess, I really do enjoy Tim Burton's Batman Returns; part of its charm is that it invokes style over both substance and logic, such that things don't always make perfect sense, but they always look fantastic while they're not making sense. Danny DeVito's performance as The Penguin is absolutely unforgettable, and he manages to bring a sense of both humanity and terror to a character who can easily become a joke. However, there's one thing always bugs me about Oswald Cobblepot in this movie, and that's his base. I know it's sort of unavoidable given that his name is The Penguin and he was raised by them in the sewers, but it's such a terrible idea for an evil lair because it's so basic. Sure, you can float the Penguin's rubber ducky down there, but what about surveillance? The place doesn't even have windows because it's freaking underground. He has few facilities immediately available if he wants to hatch a plan, and if he was ever caught in a spot of trouble in the sewer, he wouldn't really have anywhere to go.
