10 Wrestlers Who Starred In Sci-Fi Movies

There's a pretty big list of films where the wrestlers starring in them would rather watch them drift into the forgotten pool of terrible releases, but we won't be letting that happen... so welcome to the list, Bill Goldberg!

While signed to WCW in 1999, the four-time world champion tried his hand at acting, a move which has seen him appear in 15 films and over 25 TV shows over the past two decades. Dipping into the sci-fi world in just his second movie appearance, Goldberg played the role of Romeo in Universal Soldier: The Return, the second release in the series. The action film sees a battle between the "universal soldiers" and the whole army, when the military's supercomputer S.E.T.H decides it wants to overthrow the human race when budget cuts threaten the Uni Sol program. A quite admirable response to government cuts some would say...

Goldberg himself can't take the brunt of the film's criticisms, as he fit the part as a jacked-soldier with some over exaggerated shirt rips and fighting scenes well, something we're used to seeing him do inside the ring. That said, the reception for the movie itself couldn't really have been much worse. On Rotten Tomatoes, the Mic Rogers directorial debut has just a 5% rating (we could all probably make a movie with at least a 6% rating...), along with poor scores on Metacritic and CinemaScore.

Ultimately, Goldberg plays a fun cameo in a box office bomb that features some exciting explosions but not much else. With a pretty mind-numbing storyline and a strip club scene for no apparent reason (Jean-Claude Van Damme needs to hack a supercomputer, apparently we forgot strip clubs were known for their technological prowess...), Universal Soldier: The Return is a rare action film that doubles as a sleeping sedative... but hey, it has Goldberg in and who doesn't love watching him punch stuff? Give it a watch!
