10 Wrestlers Who Starred In Sci-Fi Movies
5. Hulk Hogan
Hulk Hogan's acting career mixes together just about every genre into a weird, questionable tasting movie cocktail, a key ingredient being a couple of starring sci-fi roles and a cameo alongside some muppets. Landing a leading role in 1991's Suburban Commando, the 12-time world champion tested his science fiction mettle as Shep Ramsey, in the film based on a Frank Cappello screenplay. In what you wouldn't exactly describe as a like-for-like actor swap, the release was originally titled Urban Commando, and was created for Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger. When those two aren't available, the next option would obviously be 'The Hulkster'...
In the film, which grossed just over $8 million in the United States, Hogan plays an interstellar warrior on a mission to capture intergalactic despot General Suitor, who had kidnapped President Hashina, the ruler of a planet. The negatively-received comedy was the second feature starring the former-New World Order leader, whose appearance as Ramsey didn't quite match up to 'The Immortal' legend who headlined WrestleManias. Elsewhere, Hogan joined Nash in making the most of his muscular physique, playing the role of Zeus in 2009's Little Hercules. The fantasy comedy sees Little Hercules swap Mount Olympus to live life as a mortal in Los Angeles. Given its 2.3/10 rating on IMDb you'd be forgiven for given this one a miss.
On the flip side, nobody wants to miss a Muppets movie and not least a Muppets release with Hulk Hogan. 1999 saw Muppets from Space, a Columbia Pictures title combining puppets, outer space and a Hulk Hogan cameo, everyone's favourite trio right? With a 63% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it's good to see a film featuring the legend received well. It's just unfortunate the films he played the lead in can't be said to have done the same...
