In Squirm, a freak lightning storm hits a sleepy southern American fishing town and downs its power lines causing thousands of volts of electricity to surge into the ground which has a strange effect on the local worm population.

Rather than electrocuting the slimy little wrigglers into kingdom come, it makes them go mental and mutates them into sharp-toothed, flesh-hungry little bastards that start terrorizing the town and snacking on all its residents by burrowing under their skin and eating their way out.

Being largely nocturnal, the killer worms attack mostly at night which obviously presents a bit of a problem for a town whose power lines are down come night-time. But it does mean us horror fans are treated to scenes of local yokels attempting to look terror-struck as swarms of rogue wrigglers that look suspiciously more like cooked spaghetti than worms overtake the town.
