3. Prometheus - Two Highly Educated Scientists Get Lost In A Mapped Ship.
2012’s Prometheus is a solid if somewhat misleading film to say the least. Billed as a prequel to the legendary 1979 Alien, audiences were delighted to explore the origins of the mysterious alien ship filled piloted by the Space Jockey. The film is entertaining in its own right but failed to serve as a functional prequel.
Rewritten at the last minute to distance itself from the Alien franchise, the plot contains several weaknesses that scream unfinished rewrite. The most egregious of these concerns how two highly educated scientists managed to get lost in an alien ship that they have quite literally just mapped with two drones.
The plot requires that the team be divided and picked off by the planets many hidden dangers. But the execution feels so sloppy that half the audience can't help but realise this early into the film that we are not being delivered the same experience of the near perfect original.
