11 Best Recast Movie Roles Of All Time

5. Alden Ehrenreich As Han Solo/Donald Glover As Lando

Lando Calrissian
Lucasfilm

If there was ever a recasting that shouldn't have worked, it was this one. Han Solo and Harrison Ford are inseparable. So much of what made Han so charming in the original trilogy comes solely from Ford's own personality. Heck, he and Carrie Fisher even rewrote lots of the dialogue for their characters. He was the heart and soul of that character.

So it's easy to understand why audiences were more than a bit skeptical of Lucasfilm's plan to do a Han Solo spin-off starring someone else in the title role. But here's the thing; Alden Ehrenreich does the impossible and delivers a terrific performance. He somehow walks the tightrope of constantly feeling very Han Solo-esque without ever feeling like an imitation of Ford's performance. He's so good, that there are several times throughout Solo that viewers might swear they see flashes of Harrison Ford.

And just as miraculous is the multi-talented Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. Glover's role manages to embody the classically charming spirit of Billy Dee Williams without ever coming off as forced, while also expanding audiences' understanding of the character. A quick moment where Lando is left to talk to himself allows Glover's singular performance to tell more about Lando as a character than Bill Dee could over the course of two films.

And when these two are on-screen together, this film absolutely soars.
