Similarly to Hannah Spearritt, Billie Piper was another 1990s industry-created pop singer that threw out the most manufactured plastic pop imaginable in order to appeal to tweens. She had massive initial success, then effectively disappeared. Until, that is, she showed up as Rose Tyler in Doctor Who. Many questioned the decision to cast her before the show aired, but once she hit the screens the reasoning was obvious - she was impressive, and her onscreen chemistry with Christopher Eccleston was seriously good. When David Tennant took over the lead role, their relationship was even better. While Piper has hardly gone on to become a megastar since, she has offered some great performances in the likes of Mansfield Park, Secret Diary Of A Call Girl and Penny Dreadful which suggest that there could be plenty more to come from her.
