Once DC announced their upcoming slate they started taking pot-shots at their biggest rival, which already has people rolling their eyes. Warner Bros. head of creative development said DCs movies will be in the hands of master filmmakers, and their movies will be more grounded and realistic. There was also the suggestion that Marvel makes films by committee in this, with the studio keen to show theyll allow filmmakers to have more creative say in the process. Then Ben Affleck came out and said pretty much the same thing while adding that Marvels output is too lightweight and glib, with his team's movies planned to be more mythic. These early statements and others come across as petty, which DC can't afford to be as they're not in a strong position to start calling Marvel out. The filmmakers comment is way too cocky - does anyone consider David Ayer or Zach Snyder to be master filmmakers? - although is only the tip of it; they also hired Patty Jenkins to take over Wonder Woman, who was famously dropped from Thor: The Dark World after disagreements with Marvel. As for Marvel being too lightweight; DC should realise that not everything has to be gritty to appeal to an audience.
