11 Movie Cliffhangers That Were Ignored In The Sequel

7. Exorcist III Didn't Care What Happened To Regan After The Exorcist II

Exorcist II: The Heretic was director John Boorman€™s attempt to €œundo the damage€ caused by the original, which he turned down because he thought the idea was sick and horrible. Instead, the sequel featured new age mumbo jumbo about psychics healing the sick, and Regan overcoming her trauma through hypnotherapy. A very drunk Richard Burton is the new priest helping her out. The film was a disaster, and was so bad audiences chased after the executives responsible following a test screening. It ends with Regan and Burton setting off on a journey to enlighten mankind about the healing power of Regan's psychic abilities, and how one-day humanity might be united through global consciousness. Naturally The Exorcist III avoids any mention of this, and instead finds the detective from the original movie discovering that Father Karras somehow survived his death plunge down the steps, and is being used by a demon to commit murders. It may not be a masterpiece, but it€™s a damn sight better than The Heretic.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
