11 Movie Cliffhangers That Were Ignored In The Sequel

6. The Lawnmower Man 2 Rewrites The Ending Of The Original

The Lawnmower Man had €œcutting edge€ visual effects that look decidedly ropey today, and the virtual reality concept it was touting has only recently come back in vogue. Based loosely - extremely loosely - on a Stephen King short story, the movie has a simple-minded gardener named Jobe become a virtual reality god. His body is destroyed in an explosion in the ending, but the final scene has telephones ringing the world over, signalling his €œbirth€ in cyberspace. The appalling sequel Beyond Cyberspace retcons all of that and has Jobe (played by a different actor) surviving the explosion and getting involved in another evil cyberspace scheme. In the end his plan is defeated, and Jobe€™s original personality is restored. The viewing public clearly didn€™t give a crap though, which is evidenced by the lack of a Lawnmower Man 3.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
