6. The Dark Knight Trailer Confirmed Gordon Doesn't Die
The Secret: That after apparently dying at ex-Commissioner Loeb's funeral, the newly-minted Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) reveals himself to have been alive all along, disguised as a SWAT team member and ultimately helping to apprehend The Joker (Heath Ledger). How It Was Spoiled: Pretty much every trailer focused on showing The Joker in jail, while Gordon quipped the famous line, "Nothing in his pockets but knives and lint." As such, when Gordon "died" in the movie, it was clear as day to anyone who had watched the trailers more than a few times that Gordon would be coming back, and so the entire twist was blown because the trailer-cutters couldn't resist using the delicious quote in the marketing. Perhaps there was simply poor communication between Christopher Nolan, Warner Bros. and the post-production house hired to cut the trailer, but it made Gordon's "death" totally unconvincing for anyone curious enough about the movie to obsess over the trailers.
