The Role: Jimmy Logan (Channing Tatum), one of two brothers (the other played by Adam Driver) who attempt to pull off a heist during a famed NASCAR race.

Why He Might Win: Tatum has really upped his game in recent years, emerging as a talented comedic and dramatic actor, and working here with his frequent collaborator Steven Soderbergh, it's easy to see Tatum potentially pulling off his most impressive work to date.

Why It's Unexpected: A decade ago, most people would've laughed in your face if you considered the star of two Step Up movies to be an Oscar-caliber talent, but around 2011 Tatum's fortunes began to change as he started to star in worthier projects and basically proved himself to mostly skeptical critics.

Since then he's worked with not just Soderbergh but the insanely talented Bennett Miller (Foxcatcher) and, of course, Quentin Tarantino (The Hateful Eight). Who could've ever seen this coming?
