There are a variety of factors that suggest the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from the synonymous television series could actually be quite important in the fight against Ultron. First of all, it seems very unlikely and incredibly harsh that the Avengers will be allowed to continue believing that Phil Coulson is dead, so this movie could be used to bring them up to speed with the fact he's alive. Second of all, it is already known that there will be a crossover episode of the series with the film, so the agents are definitely getting involved with the events of the movie somehow. Third, Nick Fury and Maria Hill are in the movie, and one of their go-to guys is Coulson. And finally, Ultron will be hard to completely defeat physically, so the Avengers may well need as many scientific minds and hackers as possible to take him down. It might not be a big part in terms of its length - they might only be in the movie for a short while - but their input could be key. And, although it would be a surprise if they appeared, it really shouldn't be ruled out.
