2. An Alcoholic Cop And An Electrician (Die Hard With A Vengeance)

John McClane makes a second entry on this list in with Die Hard With A Vengeance, the third film in the franchise. McClane acted alone for most of the first and second films, with the occasional assistance of Sgt. Al Powell (Reginald VelJohnson) in both movies and airport communications director Leslie Barnes in the second. For the third, however, the decision was made to give him a partner in the form of Zeus Carver (Samuel L. Jackson). Carver, an electrician by trade, initially comes to McClanes aid when terrorist Simon Gruber (Jeremy Irons) opts to torment the man responsible for his brother Hans death in the first film by having him walk through the predominantly black neighbourhood of Harlem wearing a racist sign. Witnessing Carvers rescue of McClane, Gruber forces the two to continue working together by sending them across the city of New York to defuse bombs and solve a series of riddles, distracting them and the rest of the police force as he robs the Federal Reserve. The two have a hostile relationship, but their forced pairing pays it dues in the end, as the final scene of the film sees Carver convincing McClane to try and make amends with his estranged wife.
