11 Weirdest Buddy Cop Duos In Film And TV

6. A Crazy Private Detective And A Doctor (Any Sherlock Holmes Story)

Sherlock-Header Sherlock Holmes is a British institution, having been a regular on screens both large and small since he was featured in a series of stories by Arthur Conan Doyle in the late 19th century. Opting to have Holmes accompanied by the stalwart Dr. Watson in most of these stories, Conan Doyle can possibly be credited with the creation of the €˜buddy cop€™ formula, as Holmes and Watson form a surprisingly effective partnership despite the former€™s questionable level of sanity. In recent times, the duo have returned to prominence both through the BBC€™s modern interpretation of the stories, which sees Holmes and Watson played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, as well as a pair of Guy Ritchie films, which feature the original Victorian setting and have Holmes and Watson portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. With Watson as the straight man and Holmes as the eccentric, any story featuring the two is an enjoyable one. With series three and four of Sherlock on the horizon, they will continue to be delivered for some time yet.
