12 "Adult" Movie Moments Sony Don't Want Kids To See
9. The Nut-Sack - Step Brothers
Step Brothers is not a film for children: it's fundamentally about failure to leave the nest and all of the comedy is assisted by the portrayal of Will Ferrell and John C Riley's warring step brother man children as allegories for stunted maturity. Without the awareness of the audience, their antics are just goofballing, slapstick material that has no real context.
So no wonder kids will love it.
Unfortunately for them, they're going to get a poorer version of the film, missing the cartoonish violence of their fights, the outrageous profundity of their swearing and the surprising, disarming flashes of extreme material, like the bathroom sex scene. And they'll also never get to see Will Ferrell rub a comedy plastic nut sack on his new brother's drum-kit.
