The movie was a tedious chore that turned the classic fairytale in a glum fantasy, but it was a very successful chore that became one of the highest-grossing movies ever made. Despite the wave of negative reviews he received Depp still earned a whopping $40 million for his gurning performance, and is set to play the Mad Hatter again in Alice Through The Looking Glass. Tim Burton had the self-respect to say no this time around, which is a small mercy in itself.
