12 Actors Who Did Career Worst Work In 2017

2. Tom Cruise (The Mummy)

Tom Cruise is one of the most consistent A-list actors working in Hollywood, in that he doesn't tend to pick a lot of bad parts, and even when a film isn't necessarily working, he's normally still pretty entertaining to watch.

Then The Mummy happened, a movie that apparently suffered from his over-involvement in the creative process, though the absolute worst decision Cruise made was to play his protagonist Nick Morton as a cocky, arrogant, wise-cracking a**hole.

This is not the type of character Cruise excels at playing: he is much more comfortable as the intensely committed, never-say-die hero, whereas a role like this would've been better-suited to, say, a Chris Pratt-esque lead.

From the bland "comic relief" through to the painfully forced romance with Annabelle Wallis and the lame digital action, none of it ever touched the sides, and Cruise has never felt more awkwardly miscast for a role in his entire career.

You can argue that Cocktail is a worse film until you're blue in the face, but at least Cruise was right for the part, and delivered everything audiences expected of him in that role. Here? He blew it, and never should've put himself in that position in the first place.
