12 Actors Who Immersed Themselves Too Far In Movie Scenes

5. Channing Tatum - Foxcatcher

Foxcatcher is a true story centering around US Olympian wrestling champion, Mark Schultz, training with unstable millionaire, John du Pont. As the pressure of his training starts getting to him, Schultz becomes erratic. In one scene, he repeatedly wallops himself in the cheeks full-force. That's not a performance. The actor, Channing Tatum, was punching himself in the face as hard as he could.

Just when you thought he was pushing himself too far, Tatum takes his performance up to 11 and, without warning, slams his head into a mirror three times, shattering it to pieces. He hit it with such ferocity, chips of glass can be seen embedded in Tatum's forehead.

Even though the director, Bennett Miller, encouraged the performers to push themselves as far as possible, he would've never allowed Tatum to do this, knowing he could have seriously cut himself. Tatum was lucky he was only left with a mild gash on his face since his injury could've been so much worse. It's a great scene as it emphasises Schultz' destructive side but the mirror smash wasn't necessary and not worth potentially suffering a horrific injury.
