12 Actors You Didn't Know Almost Played Superheroes

Back before the first movie in Phase One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe had cast its leading man, actors far and wide were considered for the role, including Nicolas Cage and Tom Cruise. Cruise seriously mulled over the part for a time, and even wanted to produce the film. However, he ultimately felt the script wasn't up to snuff and decided to pass on the role.

Cruise hasn't outright spoken about his potential involvement in superhero films since this debacle, however, and has gone on record stating that he prefers the action movies already in his repertoire. It's hard to argue that he's better suited for anything else when he continues to flourish in Mission Impossible sequels and Jack Reacher movies alike.
