There was a time when Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman was tapped to direct a Batman movie project in the early 1980s. Once Bill Murray was considered for the role, it became apparent that this film could be veering more toward camp than serious superhero flick. The script was to be written by the writers who brought us Superman: The Movie, one that included the Joker to be played by David Bowie.

We can only dream up what this glorious movie would have been, however. After six years of script rewrites and a director change to Tim Burton, most of these plans were scrapped and the majority of the casting choices were left behind. Michael Keaton was ultimately cast as Batman, becoming the Dark Knight for a new generation of moviegoers.
