It's hard to imagine a world where Back To The Future isn't a thing. The eighties movie has become a pop culture touchstone to the point where false reports about today being the day Marty and Doc travelled to the future in Part II are a weekly occurence. Although judging by the original teaser you can imagine people in 1985 may have had a hint it would be something pretty big. What makes the film so enduring is how it can't be described as being in one particular genre. It's a buddy comedy, sci-fi and romantic genre all wrapped up in one seamless package. And while a subsequent trailer would to get all that across in less than two minutes with a relentless voice-over, the teaser was a different story. Spending most of its time with close-ups on the DeLorean time machine, first marvelling at its outer casing before showing flashing LEDs and displays to get across the complexity of the process, it climaxes with the reveal of a sunglassered Michael J. Fox at the wheel, clearly not finding this too heavy any more. "How far you going?" asks an off screen woman. "About thirty years," he replies, lifting his sunglasses before driving off, leaving only fiery tire marks behind. Says so much and so little at the same time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LnShmQ_hLc
