12 Awesome Supporting Actors Who Need Their Own Movies
4. Michael Stuhlbarg
Michael Stuhlbarg may not have an immediately distinctive name or face to more casual moviegoers, but he's one of the most consistently brilliant character actors working in Hollywood today.
This is perhaps evidenced no better than by him starring in three eventual Best Picture Oscar nominees in 2017, making him just one of two actors to achieve the feat over the last 70 years (the other being John C. Reilly).
If Stuhlbarg's supporting turns in The Post, Call Me By Your Name and The Shape Of Water weren't enough to convince you - not to mention a killer performance in the most recent season of Fargo - he's been crushing it ever since he broke into Hollywood in the Coen brothers' A Serious Man, which ironically remains his only notable lead role to date.
Stuhlbarg's secret weapon is ultimately his versatility: whether he's goofing off in Men in Black 3 or giving his dramatic all in Steve Jobs, there's never the feeling he's turning in any less than his level best.
And while it's somewhat easy to understand why he's been cast in a fairly nebbish assortment of roles over the last decade, his enormous range proves he's absolutely worthy of leading man status.
