12 Awesome Villains In Otherwise Terrible Movies

8. Francis Dolarhyde - Red Dragon

There are probably some who will tell you that Red Dragon is a good movie on account of how much better it is than predecessor Hannibal, but those people are almost certainly misremembering the thriller prequel thanks to the performance of Ralph Fiennes.

In a prequel that needlessly plays with Hannibal Lecter (and ludicrously attempts - and fails - to convince us that Anthony Hopkins hasn't actually aged 11 years), Fiennes' Francis Dolarhyde is a stunning, terrifying creation. He's about the only thing in the film that surpasses the film it so unnecessarily remade - 1986's Manhunter - and he's almost enough to make the film good on his own.

But take him away and Red Dragon is fatally boring for what it attempts to be - largely thanks to Ed Norton's sleepwalking performance. It should have been a whole world better.
