1. Easy Miss, I've Got You. Superman: The Movie (1978)
It is the moment that gave birth to the superhero movie genre. Lois Lane survived a helicopter crash atop the Daily Planet only to fall to her death as the chopper teetered over the buildings edge, or so it seemed. In midair, Lois is saved as Superman enters his own movie for the first time, aside from a quick flight out of the Fortress of Solitude. As Lois Lane, actress Margot Kidder perfectly delivers the line, Youve got me; whos got you? Reporters and bystanders on the ground stare up into the Metropolis night sky in complete awe. In mere seconds, this sequence set a new level of fantastical reality that would carry forward for generations. The action hardly ends there, as Superman follows up his first public flight with an act of impossible strength, catching the falling helicopter with one hand while still hanging onto Lois. Superman is about more than his powers, though, as Christopher Reeve punctuates his characters entrance with trademark Superman charm, telling Lois that, statistically speaking, flying is still the safest way to travel and identifying himself as a friend. For all the showmanship highlighted in this list, it is the simplicity and legacy of this entrance that make it the very best. As superhero action scenes go, this sequence seems very small, but its hard to argue how effective it was and still is. Supermans first public entrance stands the test of time as an iconic moment in all of Superman mythology and the entire superhero genre. What's your favourite comic book introduction of all time?
