12 Best Fan Theories For 2018's Biggest Movies
7. The Smallpox Is The Rabbit's Foot From The Third Movie - Mission: Impossible - Fallout
Early on in the new Mission: Impossible movie, it's mentioned that the terrorist group known as The Apostles released a devastating outbreak of smallpox in Kashmir, killing a huge swath of the population.
If this Reddit theory is correct, the genesis of the attack goes all the way back to the third Mission: Impossible movie over a decade prior, which revolved around Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) intercepting a MacGuffin known as the Rabbit's Foot.
Its true nature was never revealed beyond it receiving a Biohazard sticker and Benji (Simon Pegg) hinting that it might be an "accelerated mutator" capable of annihilation large regions. That sure as hell sounds like smallpox, right?
Given that today there are scarce and closely-guarded samples of the pathogen remaining on Earth, it's easy to imagine how an enterprising terrorist such as Owen Davian (Phillip Seymour Hoffman) would be keen to obtain it.
As for how the Rabbit's Foot was obtained by the Apostles? Just use your imagination: the real world has enough proof that government institutions aren't quite the fortresses they'd like the general public to believe they are.
