12 Best Horror Movies About Demonic Possession

When you hear possession, do you think, let’s party? Probably not. Fortunately for ‘80s horror fans, Joe Augustyn did, and as a result, he wrote and produced Night of the Demons. It’s a boobs and blood shlock fest that has garnered an avid cult following in the years since its release.

The premise is pretty unremarkable, some teenagers break into an abandoned mortuary to have a party on Halloween night. Something was bound to go awry, especially if you’re in an ‘80s horror flick. As if having a party in a dilapidated mortuary wasn’t enough, the group immediately set up a good wholesome séance in the name of party time fun. Of course, this releases a demon, who really gets the party going.

It’s campy, it’s funny, it’s ridiculous. It does have some genuine scares; the effects and the gore are certainly disturbing. We get a heady mix of possession and ‘80s slasher. From the strange animated opening credits, which don’t fit the tone at all and are reminiscent of the opening to Duckula, to the closing gag about ‘80s tainted Halloween candy paranoia, which is in no way connected to the events of the movie, Night of the Demons is over the top thoroughbred fun. It’s a party!
