12 Best Horror Movies About Demonic Possession

7. The Evil Dead

Mayhem, chaos and hilarity. The Evil Dead was totally unique, its heady mix of horror, gore and black humour make it creepy, uncomfortable and comedic all at once. The ‘80s saw a lot of low budget horror movies produced, most of those are long forgotten but with its distinctive tone, visuals and story, The Evil Dead stands out amongst them and has never been forgotten.

The movie is a shining example of what can be achieved when creativity and resourcefulness are allowed to flourish without interference. It’s weird, it’s silly, it’s not trying to copy anything but at the same time, it does have a love for the genre it sits in.

The story is simple really. A group of college students go for a weekend away in a creepy cabin. The minute they step inside they start to get possessed by evil forces. In this movie, everything from the cabin to the trees is possessed and there’s no getting away.

With more fake blood than you could shake a possessed stick at, the movie is elevated to the delightfully ridiculous, as every practical effect gets more over the top than the last. The filmmakers show a real love for the creativity of the craft, revelling in the process. This love is written all over the film. It is this that has made The Evil Dead so memorable and so enduring.
