12 Biggest Box Office Flops Of 2017 (So Far)
7. Monster Trucks
The first in a long line of box office misses for Paramount this
year alongside action flick xXx: Return of Xander Cage, horror Rings and a
certain Scarlett Johansson movie we’ll be talking about soon, Monster Trucks
boasts the dubious distinction of being 2017’s inaugural flop.
Even prior to its release, the future didn’t look too bright for Monster Trucks when Paramount’s parent company Viacom announced back in September of 2016 that it would take a $115 million write-down on the movie thanks to underwhelming forecasts on its box office performance.
Flip-flopping around with a movie’s release schedule doesn’t usually bode too well for its quality and future success and that certainly proved the case for Monster Truck whose release was pushed back not once, not twice but thrice before a mid-January dump month date was set. Almost inevitably it took a nosedive at the box office, making a little over half back on its $125 million production budget.
