12 Biggest Reveals We Learned From CinemaCon 2019
2. Disney Will Extend Fox's Key Franchises
It’s happened. Disney bought Fox and is on their way to total media-based world domination. In what’s a bit of good news, though, they don’t seem to be too maniacal in the acquisition. THR reported $71.3 billion dollars were spent and Walt Disney Studio chairman Alan Horn reassured Cinema Con audiences, “"We are truly excited because together we believe we will be more than the sum of our parts.”
In a smart move many feared wouldn’t come, Horn guaranteed Disney is excited about continuing Fox’s franchises with Kingsman, Alien, Planet of the Apes, and Avatar being listed by name. Nothing was said about merging Fox’s superhero franchises (Deadpool, X-Men, and Fantastic Four) joining the MCU in any near future.
Horn also discussed how the success of other Fox films would be a new proposition for Disney. Bohemian Rhapsody, Murder on the Orient Express, and Deadpool 2, and The Greatest Showman all hit the $100 million domestic mark in the past two years.
News about the merger will slowly pour out in the next year, but for now it seems everyone’s favourite Fox franchises are safe.
