4. Is Jason Todd Still Alive? - DCEU

Joker Scars Dark Knight
Warner Bros.

Since Batman v Superman's marketing revealed that Jason Todd had been killed prior to the film's events by the Joker, pretty much everyone assumed that we were going to see a set-up for Red Hood's appearance.

After all, they surely wouldn't just introduce Jason Todd as the first Robin, would they? If they wanted to kill a Robin for effect, why not make it Dick Grayson? That would be a far bigger statement, and wouldn't invite the inevitable questions on the possibility of the DCEU following the comics' arc. Using Todd was a provocation, and it surely had to lead somewhere.

Otherwise they've just killed off an important character (and the possibility of a major, iconic arc) to make Batman look a bit grumpy. Sure, Suicide Squad seemingly confirmed that Harley Quinn was an "accomplice in the murder of Jason Todd", but since when does that mean anything concrete? Might they actually be playing a long-game with the Todd revelation?
