12 Controversial Horror Movies That Shocked The World
11. Psycho
Despite being over fifty years old, Psycho is one of the greatest and most well-known horror films ever. Even those who haven't watched the film can recall the chilling theme music and the infamous sequence where Janet Leigh is brutally stabbed to death. Much like the previous entry on Peeping Tom, Alfred Hitchcock's seminal horror masterpiece was critically panned upon release and garnered considerable controversy. Like most films from the 1960's, Psycho is relatively tame these days but the censors and critics back then weren't so accepting of the film's unprecedented and unwavering approach to violence and sex. Specifically, critics and some audiences got all worked up over a naked Leigh getting stabbed in the shower (despite no real nudity and very little blood), and the fact that an unmarried man and woman were sharing a bed together. Yeah, there were some prudish types back in the 1960's. No matter though as it all worked out in the end: audiences ended up loving the film and all those negative reviews soon gave way to critical acclaim and a place in cinema history.
My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem.
Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh.
