12 Most Controversial Movie Moments Of 2013

1. Author's Homophobic Slurs Resurface - Ender's Game

In the weeks and months leading up to the release of the highly hyped sci-fi adaptation 'Ender's Game,' the film became secondary to the outcry over the beliefs of author Orson Scott Card in relation to the gay community and, in particular, gay marriage. While his opinions had been out in the open for years, when it came time for Hollywood's promotional behemoth to move into action it was met by an online campaign to boycott the film in protest. As a result of the pressure Lionsgate put out a statement distancing itself and the film from the writer's own, personal views. Since then director Gavin Hood and actors from the film including Harrison Ford have also spoken out to distance themselves from Card's opinions. In the end the controversy garnered more attention than the film, which made a mediocre $28 million on its US opening weekend.
