12 Die Hard Easter Eggs You Probably Missed

7. John McClane's Teddy Bear Was In The Hunt For Red October

You know that John McClane is a nice guy as soon as he appears on the screen for the first time. It's also clear that he's a non-traditional action hero, because you would never see Rambo boarding a plane whilst carrying a huge stuffed teddy bear, a gift for his kids as he goes to visit them and his estranged wife on Christmas.

Turns out that teddy bear is something of a trademark of director James McTiernan, who has used the stuffed toy as a prop in other films since. Most notably in The Hunt For Red October, McTiernan's adaptation of the Tom Clancy thriller starring Alec Baldwin and another of those Sean Connery performances where he refuses to do an accent.

As if bookending Die Hard and The Hunt For Red October, the latter film ends with Baldwin's hero Jack Ryan going home, having saved the world once again. To let the audience know that everything is okay from here on out, what innocent symbol does Ryan take with him? That exact same teddy bear from Die Hard.
