12 Directors You Didn't Know Almost Made Comic Book Movies

8. The Wachowskis - Plastic Man

Plastic Man aka Patrick "Eel" O'Brian is able to alter his density at will following a chemical accident, and while he's easily the most niche superhero on this list, that didn't stop the Wachowskis writing their own spec script in the mid-1990s.

At the time, Larry (now Lana) Wachowski said, “It’s probably the closest script to a comedy we’ll write...We thought it could be kind of cool. The basic idea we came up with was that he would be an environmentalist, almost like an Earth First-er type guy.”

Due to budgetary concerns, the movie never got made, though word spread in 2008 that the directors were planning to reunite with Keanu Reeves to in fact direct that original 1995 script.

Of course, it never happened, and given the niche appeal of the character combined with the massive price tag required, it's not too surprising.

Would It Have Worked?: Accepting the Wachowskis' recent track record of big-budget flops, it's honestly hard to have much faith.
